Old Commission Too

Gaia Style Digital Line Drawing

Another old commission. My lineart style has always been WILDLY different than my coloring style. That’s probably because A: I started off focusing on drawing by inking linework, so I got really into line quality as being a separate thing from coloration.

Then B: I come into illustration from straight up oil painting, and when I oil paint, I don’t use lines AT ALL. They don’t exist IRL so why bother? Painting is such a totally different thing from drawing to me. So when I do a color illustration, I start off in a painterly way, by throwing big blocks of color or grey tones around til forms begin to emerge.

When I’m drawing, I’m assuming that the forms are already there, and I’m just making it so they are not invisible anymore.
